## **So I Was Going to Make Eggs Today and Saw This on the Yolk…**

Eggs are a kitchen staple — simple, quick, and versatile. But today, as I cracked an egg open to make breakfast, something unusual caught my eye right on the yolk. It was one of those little moments that made me pause and wonder: What exactly am I seeing?

### **What Could It Be?**

If you’ve ever noticed something odd on an egg yolk—whether it’s a small white spot, a blood spot, or an unusual coloration—don’t panic! These things happen naturally and are usually harmless.

* **Blood Spots:** These small red or brownish spots are caused by a tiny blood vessel rupture during the hen’s egg formation. They’re safe to eat and don’t mean the egg is fertilized or bad.
* **Meat Spots:** Sometimes, bits of tissue from the hen’s reproductive tract get caught in the yolk. Also harmless.
* **Chalaza:** Those little ropey strands you sometimes see anchoring the yolk in the egg white — a sign of freshness!

### **What I Did Next**

Curious but not alarmed, I inspected the egg a bit closer. The spot didn’t affect the taste or texture. I decided to cook the eggs anyway, and they turned out delicious.
